Guide to PCB design - The Digital Design Compass - an interview with Eugen Köhler (RAFI)

Preview Digital Design Compass

The rapid development of the electronics industry requires increasingly efficient tools and technologies in order to meet the growing demands. With our Digital Design Compass, we - the KSG Group - have brought to life a free online tool with helpful operating functions that is available around the clock. The platform supports PCB design and can be used in German and English.

We investigated the question of whether and how the Digital Design Compass helps our customers to implement their projects more effectively and efficiently. In this context, we asked Eugen Köhler from RAFI GmbH & Co. KG on the subject.

Eugen Köhler

works at RAFI as a PCB layouter. His tasks include designing printed circuit boards, optimizing costs and creating documentation.

RAFI GmbH & Co. KG

RAFI is a manufacturer of electromechanical and electronic components and systems for human-machine communication. RAFI is a technology leader, innovation driver and first point of contact for leading companies in the E²MS and HMI sectors. The name RAFI stands for reliability, quality, a high level of consulting expertise and decades of industry knowledge.

How important is PCB design at RAFI?

Köhler: We attach great importance to well-designed PCBs that meet your specific requirements. Reliable PCB design is therefore not only a technical aspect, but also a decisive factor for success and long-term partnerships with customers in the electronics industry.

PCB design plays an extremely important role for us, as it significantly influences the performance, reliability and efficiency of electronic devices. The quality of PCB design is directly linked to the functionality and longevity of electronic products. A well-designed PCB enables optimal signal transmission, minimizes interference and contributes to the efficient use of resources.

What role does PCB design play in RAFI's business operations?

Köhler: In terms of business operations, PCB design is crucial as it has a direct impact on costs, production times and ultimately a company's competitiveness.

Optimized PCB design can reduce production costs and waste and meet delivery deadlines. The quality and reliability of the printed circuit board in turn influence customer satisfaction and the company's reputation in the industry.

What prompted you to use the KSG Group's Digital Design Compass (DDC for short)?

Köhler: I have been working from the new Digital Design Compass the newsletter - the XPERTS-Letter - about KSG. The online platform for designing printed circuit boards, which is available at any time, immediately appealed to me. The various functions of this platform, especially the forwarding of information, e.g. to the purchasing department or to developers, prompted me to take a closer look at this tool.

What is the quickest way to familiarize yourself with the operation of the DDC?

Köhler: My experience of using the DDC has been consistently positive. The appearance is appealing and the usability is very good and I was able to intuitively find all the information I needed easily. There are also short explanatory videos, the so-called "Hans Hackl Hacks"which can be viewed directly via the portal page of the online tool or on YouTube.

How Do you evaluate the functions of the DDC and what experiences have you had with it?

Köhler: The integrated functions are easy to use and very practical. I would like to emphasize the watch list function. I can use it to compile topic and project-specific knowledge articles and call them up quickly and easily on the screen again and again. These watch lists are then personalized knowledge libraries, individually and tailor-made for different design tasks and requirements. This option of creating individual watch lists is ideal for internal and external training and consulting.

What particular advantages do you gain from using the DDC?

Köhler: By using the DDC, I save a lot of time, numerous technical clarifications with the PCB manufacturer but also in the team are no longer necessary, which means that I am not only faster in my processes, but also safer. Speaking of the team: by sharing this tool, we can work together optimally as a team, regardless of location. Seamless communication and collaboration promotes the exchange of information and speeds up the work process.

To summarize, I can say that by using the Digital Design Compass I have been able to adopt a simplified, faster, more efficient way of working, which leads to a considerable acceleration of my working time.

And what about you, have you already put our DDC through its paces or have we been able to arouse your interest in our DDC with this blog post? In any case, you can register here: Digital Design Compass
We wish you much pleasure and success in using this tool.
