Membrane keypads consist of a film composite made up of at least four film layers. Polyester films with thicknesses of 0.10 mm to 0.25 mm are used as decorative films. The individual layers are bonded and spaced apart using polyester substrates coated on both sides with acrylate adhesives in thicknesses between 0.05 mm and 0.30 mm. The circuitry of the membrane keypad is either applied to polyester films by screen printing using polymer pastes with a high silver content, or realized as a printed circuit board.
With the foil circuit, it is possible to overprint non-conductive areas of the circuits with a UV-curing insulating varnish. In this way, bridges can also be realized (comparable to vias on printed circuit boards). The adhesive film is applied as the final layer. This can be individually adapted to the application and the housing material.
